African Padauk Flooring for Your Home

What makes African Padauk a special wood? It has been used for centuries to create high end furniture. And, due to its resonant quality, African Padauk has been used for traditional and western instruments and was favored for telegraph poles. Barwood dye from the heartwood is used to color red fabrics. The blood red sap is used in ritual ceremonies for its symbolism and various parts of the tree are used a traditional remedies for a range of ailments. The wood is also resistant to termites.
With a strong grain and amazing red color, Padauk is a bold and eye-catching choice. A floor made of African Padauk will undergo a transformation. This transformation resulting from sunlight exposure gives this hardwood an interesting range of colors when used as flooring. New homes often use Paduak as an accent border or decorative inlays to create that dramatic affect no other hardwood can match! Padauk lumber is heavy and durable, more so than oak. This exotic flooring option generally works exceptionally well with either hand or power tools. You’ll have no trouble gluing padauk, and screws remain secure. The wood sands easily, but for a glass-smooth finish, we recommend a paste wood filler or sealer to even out its open grain. Clear finishes should contain an ultraviolet inhibitor to reduce Padauk’s tendency to darken. Sanding dust may stain your hands and clothes, and may even irritate your nose.
High abrasion resistance makes it an excellent heavy-duty flooring timber. This makes it a sought after choice for interior design in your home. Paduak is amazing in its rich colors and excellent workability, how can you go wrong with this wood!
While there really is no market for typical reclaimed Padauk, you can find recycled Padauk flooring. This option takes strips of this red wood from Africa, glues them together, and creates a high-end, eco-chic floor surface that adds the element of depth to any contemporary, or brightly lit space.
